Merit Kitchens is proud to congratulate Ami McKay and the team at PURE Design Inc., whose vibrant Sunny Yellow Kitchen has been awarded the Grand Prize in the 2025 Merit Kitchens Designer of the Year competition.
Located in Vancouver’s Mount Pleasant neighbourhood, this 330 sq. ft. kitchen stood out for its bold use of colour, thoughtful layout, and exceptional balance of creativity and functionality.
Inspired by Danish minimalism, the design pairs clean architectural lines with a lively palette of sunny yellow, natural oak, creamy white, and subtle accent tones. Repeating curved elements throughout the space soften the linear layout and introduce warmth and movement.
At the centre of the kitchen is a dramatic 12-foot island, designed as both a functional workspace and a natural gathering place for family and friends. The layout connects the kitchen seamlessly with the living and dining areas, creating an open environment designed for everyday living and entertaining.
Merit Kitchens semi custom cabinetry helped bring the vision to life, featuring Tofino style doors in a custom yellow painted finish framed with white oak. Thoughtful storage solutions and specialized drawer organization ensure the kitchen performs as beautifully as it looks.
